Kids Grow Through Discovery!

Our Discovery Room is the perfect space for little learners to explore, imagine, and grow! With monthly rotating themes, children can build important pre-kindergarten readiness skills while having fun. The room features a pretend play area where real-life situations come to life, hands-on sensory activities, a creative coloring section, and an early learning science station designed to spark curiosity. It’s a place where play and learning go hand in hand, making every visit a new adventure.

Discovery Room

Our Discovery Room is a hands-on learning space designed to spark curiosity and support early childhood development through play. Each month features a new theme, giving children exciting new opportunities to explore, imagine, and learn:

  • September – Colours: Exploring the world of colour through art, play, and discovery.

  • October – Farm & Harvest: Learning about animals, crops, and the changing seasons.

  • November – Numbers: Hands-on counting and early math skill building.

  • December – Seasons: Understanding how our world changes throughout the year.

  • January – Shapes: Identifying, sorting, and playing with shapes in everyday life.

  • February – Emotions: Learning about feelings, empathy, and social skills.

  • March – Transportation: Cars, trains, planes, and everything that moves!

  • April – Letters: Building early literacy through alphabet play and recognition.

  • May – Senses: Discovering the five senses through engaging sensory play.

Within the Discovery Room, children can enjoy a variety of interactive learning areas:

  • Pretend Play Area: A monthly changing space that connects with each theme, offering activities that teach life skills, cooperation, problem-solving, role play, and creativity while bringing real-life situations to life.

  • Sensory Table: A hands-on learning station where children can explore textures, materials, and cause-and-effect play. Sensory play supports cognitive growth, language development, and problem-solving, while also helping children regulate emotions and grasp abstract concepts through direct experience.

  • Rolling Playdough Cart: Playdough is a staple in early learning, and our mobile cart ensures easy access. Squishing, rolling, and shaping playdough strengthens fine motor skills, builds hand strength and dexterity, and sparks creativity—laying important foundations for writing and self-care skills.

  • Early Learning Science Station: Our newest addition, this station introduces children to age-appropriate science concepts. Through fun, simple experiments and activities, kids begin building a foundation in science that they can build on throughout their school years.

The Discovery Room was originally made possible through funding from the City of Wetaskiwin Community Grant Program. Today, it continues to thrive as a place where children discover, imagine, and grow—building confidence, creativity, and essential readiness skills for school and life.
